Castor oil also called Ricinus Oil obtained from the seeds of the castor beans by method of either pressing or by solvent extraction. Castor oil and its derivatives are used in synthetic resins, plastics, fibers, paints, cosmetics, lubricants, ink and pigments, rubber, pharmaceuticals, adhesives, greases and hydraulic fluids etc. It is a colorless or pale-yellow liquid with a distinct taste and odor. India is known as the world leader in castor seed and production and leads the international castor oil trade. Approximately more than 80% of castor seed production in India is concentrated in Gujarat, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. Global castor oil production is concentrated primarily in a small geographic region of Gujarat in Western India and specifically, the regions of Mehsana, Banaskantha, and Saurashtra/Kutch in Gujarat.
